Electrical Appliances Safety Management (KC)

Purpose of Certification

The Electrical Appliances Safety System is implemented under the Act on the Safety Management of Electrical and Household Products. It aims to protect the lives, bodies, and property of citizens and promote consumer interests and safety by managing the manufacture, import, and sale of products to prevent harm to consumers' lives and bodies, property damage, or damage to the natural environment caused by handling and use of products.

Certification Overview

Under the Electrical Appliances Safety System, electrical and electronic products that may cause harm such as fire or electric shock due to product or component structure or methods of use must demonstrate safety according to the product type, classified as Safety Certification, Safety Confirmation, or Supplier's Declaration of Conformity.

※ Electrical appliances used at AC 30 V or below or DC 42 V or below are excluded from safety-managed electrical appliances; however, electrical appliances separately designated in the remarks of Annexes 1, 2, and 3 of the Operational Guidelines are included in safety-managed electrical appliances.

Remarks

Validity Period

After obtaining Safety Certification, factory audits are conducted every 2 years to maintain certification.

Penalties

Under Article 49 (Penal Provisions) of the Act on the Safety Management of Electrical and Household Products, violators shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than 3 years or a fine of not more than 30 million won.

Other Matters

  • If a CB certificate (including test report) issued by a certification body accredited under the IECEE system, tested according to international standards (IEC), is submitted, product testing for the relevant components may be exempted.
  • When proceeding with Safety Certification for a product of the same classification manufactured at a factory that has undergone Safety Certification (with factory audit), the factory audit may be omitted.
