Conformity Assessment (KC)
Purpose of Certification
The Conformity Assessment System is implemented under the Radio Waves Act. It defines matters concerning the efficient and safe use and management of radio waves, promotes the development of radio wave utilization and related technologies, and thereby contributes to the advancement of radio-related fields and the promotion of public welfare.
Certification Overview
Under the Conformity Assessment System, equipment that may harm the radio environment or broadcast/communication networks, cause significant electromagnetic interference, or be affected to the extent of abnormal operation from electromagnetic waves must undergo testing according to the applicable conformity assessment standards and obtain certification classified as Conformity Certification, Conformity Registration, Self-Conformity, or Interim Certification depending on the product.
Target Products
Equipment subject to Conformity Certification
- Broadcasting and communication equipment that may harm the radio environment or broadcast/communication networks
- Broadcasting and communication equipment that causes significant electromagnetic interference or is affected to the extent of abnormal operation from electromagnetic waves
- Other broadcasting and communication equipment that may cause significant harm to human life and safety

Equipment subject to Conformity Registration
- Broadcasting and communication equipment with an operating frequency of 9 kHz or higher that is not subject to Conformity Certification

Equipment subject to Interim Certification
- Broadcasting and communication equipment developed with new technology for which standards and specifications have not yet been established

Equipment subject to Self-Conformity
- Equipment with a very low risk of radio interference and impact on the human body. (The manufacturer or seller declares conformity after testing by itself or at a designated testing body.)

Remarks
Penalties
Under Article 84 (Penal Provisions) of the Radio Waves Act, violators shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than 3 years or a fine of not more than 30 million won.
