FSSC 22000
FSSC 22000 Overview
FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification 22000) was developed by the Foundation for Food Safety Certification (FFSC) with support from CIAA (EU food and drink industry association). It targets food suppliers that process or manufacture animal products, perishable plant products, ambient long-shelf-life products, additives, vitamins, cultures, and similar food materials.
FSSC 22000 combines ISO 22000 (food safety management systems) with ISO/TS 22002-1, developed to address prerequisite program requirements for food and ingredient suppliers. It is the first international food safety standard specialized for food manufacturing and food packaging manufacturing.
FSSC 22000 also covers storage during transport and at production sites when part of the business. It applies to all food manufacturers regardless of organization size, complexity, or location.

Background of FSSC 22000
FSSC 22000 is a scheme based on ISO 22000 (food safety management systems) that incorporates both international and individual standards.
With participation from global food companies such as Nestlé, Kraft, Danone, and Unilever, CIAA (European food industry association) established a combined standard in 2009 adding requirements to ISO 22000 and ISO 22002-1 (PAS 220). It became an international food safety standard approved by GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative).
